height of the cylinder =h = 14cm
let radius of the base = r cm

curved surface area =CSA = 2πrh
this is equal to 88cm² given in the problem

2πrh = 88
2*22/7*r*14 =88

2*22*2*r =88 [ after cancellation]

88r = 88
r = 88/88
r =1 cm
therfore

diameter (d) = 2r=2*1cm = 2cm

h = 14cm

r =  \: ?

csa = 2\pi \: r \: h = 88

2 \times  \frac{22}{7}  \times r \times 14 = 88 \\  44 \times r \times 2 = 88 \\ 88r = 88 \\ r =  \frac{88}{88}  \\ r = 1cm

d = 2r \\  = 2 \times 1 \\  = 2cm

I hope this helps you
