K3IO5 exist as K3[IO5] which can be further written as [IO5]³- in ionic form .

Here iodine atom will behave as central metal atom which contains 7 electrons in its outermost shell . the rest three negative charges indicates that the central metal atom is gaining electrons from donor atom i.e. k atoms.

These 3 electrons along with 7 electrons of Iodine atom will take part in bond formation with 5 oxygen atoms .

This molecules will show sp³d hybridization because of presence of 5 σ bonds as only sigma bonds are involved in hybridization .
