given:

The denominator of a fraction is one more than its numerator

let the numerator be x and the denominator be x+ 1

so the fraction is => x/x+1

If one is deducted from both numerator and denominator the fraction will be equal to 0.5

=> x-1/x+1-1 = 0.5

=> x-1/x = 5/10

=> x-1/x = 1/2

By cross multiplying

=> x = 2(x-1)

=> x = 2x-2

=> x-2x = -2

=> -x = -2

=> x = 2

so x+1 = 2+1 = 3

so the original fraction is 2

hope it helps you
