The diagonal divides the quadrilateral into two triangles. The diagonal becomes the base of the triangles and the perpendiculars are the altitudes.

Total area of quadrilateral = 1/2 * 48 cm * 4.8 cm + 1/2 48 cm * 8.6 cm
  = 321.6 cm²

given
diagonal = d= 48cm
h1 = 4.8cm
h2 = 8.6cm
area of the Quadrilateral = (h1+h2)d/2
=(4.8+8.6)*48/2
=13.4*24
=321.6square cm
