the diagonal of a rectangular field is 16 meters more than shorter side. If the longer side is 14 meters more than the shorter sise, then find the length of field?

Let the shorter side =xm

diagonal of the rectangle =x+16m

Longer side =x+14

∴AB2+BC2=AC2

(x+14)2+x2=(x+16)2

x2+28x+146+x2=x2+32x+256

=> x2−4x−60=0

(x−10)(x+6)=0

Hence x=10 or -6

x=−6 is not admissable

x=10

Hence the length of the sides of the field are  

Shorter side =10m

Longer side =24m

diagonal side =26m
