(a)

(i) The angle of incidence is the angle which the incident ray makes with the normal.

Hence, ∠i = 900 – 300 = 600

(ii) Angle of refraction is the angle which the refracted ray makes with the normal

Hence, ∠r = 900 – 450 = 450

(b) According to Snell’s law

air μliquid = sin i / sin r

= sin 600 / sin 450

air μliquid = (√3 / 2) / (1 / √2)

= (√3/2)

= 1.22
