Given:

The diameter of a circular well is 4.5 m

Its depth is 14m

To find:

The cost of cementing the inner surface of the wall at 120 per m²

Solution:

We have,

Diameter = d = 4.5 m

∴ Radius = r = \frac{4.5}{2} = 2.25 m

Since the well needs to be cemented from inside so, we have to find the

the curved surface area of the well which is in the shape of a cylinder.

∴ The inner curved surface area of the well is,

= Curved Surface Area of a cylinder

= 2\pi rh

= 2\times \frac{22}{7}\times 2.25 \times 14

= 2\times 22\times 2.25 \times 2

= \bold{198\:m^2}

Now,

If the cost of cementing 1 m² of the inner surface of the well = Rs. 120

Then,

The cost of cementing 198 m² of the inner surface of the well is,

= Rs. 120 × 198 m²

= Rs. 23760

Thus, the cost of cementing the inner surface of the well at 120 per m² is Rs. 23760.
