the difference between age of two brothers is 10 years.15 years ago if the elder one is twice of the age of younger one.find the present age of both brothers

Let the present age of elder brother be x
& the present age of younger brother be y

x-y = 10

x = 10+y .......... ( i )


Fifteen years ago,

( x-15 ) = 2( y-15 )

x-15 = 2y-30

x-2y-15+30 = 0

x-2y+15 = 0 ..........( ii )

*Putting the value of x in equation ( ii )

x-2y+15 = 0

10+y-2y+15 = 0

-y+35 = 0

-y = -35

y = 35


Now,

*Putting the value of y in equation ( i )

x = 10+y

x = 10+35

x = 45


So,

The present age of elder brother is 45 years

& the present age of younger brother is 35 years.
