the difference between the ages of a man and his son is 20 years and the sum of their ages is 44 find their ages​

Let the age of man be x years.

Let the age of his son be y years.

Difference of their ages= 20 years.

i.e, x- y=20 ....(1)

Sum of their ages= 44 years.

i.e, x+y =44....(2)

By adding eq(1) and (2) .., we get,

x-y+x+y= 20+44

2x= 64

x= 32

That is age of father is 32 years.

Putting value of x in eq (2) ....

32+ y = 44

y= 44-32

y= 12

That is age of son is 12 years..
