the equation formed are -

let the numbers be x , y
then,
        x-y = 8
       x + 2 = 3y

solving the 2nd equation ,
we get -
               y = (x +2)/3
putting the value of y in 1st equation ,
 we get ,

            x - (x+2/3) = 8
           3x - x +2 = 8*3
           2x + 2 = 24
therefore , x = 11.

   for y -
             y = x +2/3
           y = 11+2 /3
             y = 13/3 = 4.333

therefore the value of x = 11 and y = 4.333

ToadGaming123: thats the answer i got but its wrong
Anonymous: u did mistake here x -(x+2/3) = 3x -x -2= 24 after opening bracket u haven't changed the sign see ur answer

hey dear!
let the bigger and smaller number be x and y.

according to question :

=) x - y = 8 *********(1)

now

=) (x+2) = 3y ********(2)

so put x = 3y - 2 in equation (1) we get ,

=) 3y - 2 - y = 8

=) 2y = 10

=) y = 10/2 = 5

putting y =5 in eqn 1 we get.

=) x = 8+5 = 13

so bigger number is 13 and smaller number is 5
