Let the bigger number be x and smaller number be y.
so
x-y=8_________1
x+2=3y_________2
by substitution method
x=8+y (from 1)________3
putting the value of 1 in 2
8+y+2=3y
10=3y-y
10=2y
y=10/2
y=5
putting the value of y in 3
x=5+4
x=13.
