Let the bigger number is x

And the smaller number is y

According to the question,

x - y = 8

=> x = 8 + y....................(i)

And,

x + 2 = 3 * y

8 + y + 2 = 3 * y ( by (i))

10 + y = 3 * y

=> 10 = 2 * y

=> y = 5

putting value of y in (i)

=> x = 13

Therefore, the numbers are 13 and 5

Ques.→The difference between two numbers is 8.if 2 is added to the bigger number the result will be three times the smaller number. find the number.

Solution →

⚪Let one number be x

⚪Let other number be y

[ x > y ]

 <b> According to Question -</b>

→ x - y = 8

→ x + 2 = 3y

▪Subtracting these 2 equations,

=> ( x - x ) (-y +3y ) = 10

=> 2y = 10

 =  > y =  \frac{10}{2}

 <b> <u> y = 5 </u> </b>

★ Substitute the value of y in any of the equation :-

=> x - y = 8

=> x - 5 = 8

 <b> <u> x = 13 </u> </b>

_______________________________________

 <u> ★Verification ★</u>

→ 13 - 5 = 8 ✔

→ 13 + 2 = 3 ( 5)

= 15 = 15 ✔

Hence it satisfies both the given conditions .

 <b> •°• The numbers are 13 and 5 </b>
