Given:

the difference between two numbers is divided by 2 and the result is 3.

To Find:

Find these two numbers, if triple the smaller number is 4 less than double the larger number

Solution:

Let the two numbers be x and y such that x>y then it is given that triple the smaller number is 4 less than double the larger number which can be formulated as,

3x=2y-4    -(1)

And it is also given that the difference between two numbers is divided by 2 and the result is 3 which can be formulated as,

[tex]\frac{y-x}{2}=3\\ y-x=6\\ y=x+6[/tex]

So now we can substitute the value of y in equation 1 which will give us,

[tex]3x=2y-4\\ 3x=2(x+6)-4\\ 3x=2x+12-4\\ x=8[/tex]

So the value of x is 8 then the value of y will be,

y=x+6

 =8+6

 =14

Hence, the two numbers are 8 and 14.
