The difference of two numbers is 72 and the Quotient obtained by Dividing one by the other is 3.
Find the numbers??

Let numbers be x and y

x-y =72 so x=y+72 ----->1

and x/y=3 Then y+72/y=3 So

y+72=3y then 2y=72 then y=36

and x=36+72=108

Answer 2

Let greater number be x
and smaller number be y.
Difference is 72 i.e.,
X - Y = 72
Therefore Y = X - 72
On Dividing greater number by smaller number we get........
X/X - 72 = 3
=> X = 3(X - 72)
=> X = 3X - 216
=> 2X = 216
=> X = 216/2 = 108
Y = X - 72
= 108-72 = 36
So, one number is 108 and the other number is 36.
You can also use simultaneous equation to solve this question by taking 2 variables x and y.
