This question is based on the short story 'The Last Leaf' by O. Henry.

The differences between the vine and Johnsy  are as follows :

1. The ivy vine has to face harsh weather conditions that are beyond its control. Johnsy's struggle, on the other hand, is mostly psychological as she is suffering from depression due to her illness and has consequently become very pessimistic.

2. While the ivy vine has no say in its chances to survive the harsh weather, Johnsy can improve her chances of survival by fifty percent by becoming optimistic and developing a willingness to live.
