The dimensions of a rectangular field are 120 m  70 m. The field is to be changed into a garden, leaving a path way of 5 m width around the garden. Find the expenses that are met when the cost per square meter is Rs. 10.

Let the outer rectangle be ABCD and the inner rectangle be abcd. 

Length and Breadth of the outer rectangle = 120 meter and 70 meter.

The uniform width of the inside path is 5 meter,

So, the length of the inner rectangle = 120 - 10= 110 m 

and the breadth of the inner rectangle = 70 -  10= 60 m

The area of the inner rectangle = 110 × 60 =6600 m²

Cost of covering the garden by grass = Rs 10 per square meter.

The total cost of covering the garden by grass = 10 × 6600

= Rs 66000
