A = 48 cm^2

original side is s - 15 cm

Solution:

A = 6s^2

48 = 6(s-15)^2

8 = (s-15)^2

Just use extracting square root to solve for s

8 = (s-15)^2

√8 = √(s-15)^2

√8 = s-15

s= 15 + √8

s= 15 + 2√2

s= 15 + 2.83

s= 17.83 cm

The side of original cube is 17.83 cm, and the new side of a cube is 2.83 cm.
