The electric field due to a negative chargepoints radially in from all directions(because a positive test charge placed near it would feel a force pointing toward it). In general, electric field lines always point from positive charges and toward negative charges.

<b><i>The direction of the field is taken to be the direction of the force it would exert on apositive test charge. The electric field is radially outward from a positive charge and radially in toward a negative point charge.
