The direction of magnetic field at any location on the Earth's Surface is commonly specified in terms of a 3-dimensional vector.
We use a compass first to determine the direction of Magnetic North.
The angle of the magnetic north relative to the true north is called the Declination or the Variation.
When we are facing the Magnetic North, the angle that field makes with the Horizontal is called the Inclination or Magnetic dip.
The Intensity of this field is proportional to the force it exerts on a magnet.
