=5cm :100000cm
the distance between two cities in the map=1.9cm

according to problem,and by using proportion

5:100000::1.9: X
since product of extremes =product of means

5x=100000*1.9
5x=190000
X=190000/5
X =38000
therefore the actual distance between the two cities =38km
