The distance between two stations A and B is 200 km. Two trains start at the same time from A and B in the opposite directions towards each other. After 2 hours, the distance between them is 50 km. if the speed of one train is 5 km/h more than the other train, find their speed.

Total distance traveled = 200 - 50 = 150 km

They traveled for 2 hours.

.

Find the difference in their distance:

1 hour = 5 km

2 hours = 5 x 2 = 10 km

.

Find the distance traveled by each train:

Let the distance one train be x

The other train is x - 10

.

Total distance is 150:

x + x - 10 = 150

2x - 10 = 150

2x = 160

x = 80

.

One train traveled 80 km.

The other train traveled 80 - 10 = 70 km

.

Find their speed:

Slower train = 70 ÷ 2 = 35 km/h

Faster train = 80 ÷ 2 = 40 km/h

.

Answer: Their speed are 35km/h and 40km/h

Solutions :-

️Let the speed of the train Travel slower ( x Km / h)

A.T.Q speed of Faster train will be ( x + 5 Km / h)

Distance traveled by slower train in 2 hours

=> speed = distance / time

=> Distance = speed × time

=> Distance = ( x ) × 2

=> Distance = 2 x Km

Distance traveled by faster train

=> Distance = speed × time

=> Distance = ( x + 5 ) × 2

=>Distance = ( 2 x + 10 ) Km

️ Now total distance was 200 and they had traveled 150 Km after 2 hours , So

=> 2 x + 2 x + 10 = 150

=> 4 x + 10 = 150

=> 4 x = 140

=> x = 35 Km / h

️ Now speed of slower train is 35Km / h

Speed of Faster train is ( 35 + 5 ) = 40 Km / h
