RiyaBh: Therefore, the farther away is the handle is from the hinges,lesser is the force needed to open the door. Hence, it is easier to open the door.

The mechanics of placing a door knob in the center of the door become much more intricate and much more costly. Look at a regular door knob in a package at your favorite hardware store. It is pretty small and the latch mechanism is fairly short in length. What if this mechanism was placed in the center of the door? A couple inches of mechanism quickly becomes about 17.5″ of mechanisms. The door itself has to have a channel hollowed out from the center to the latch, etc.
