THE TURTLES OF NAMUANA

I see before me stretches of the bright blue sea of Fiji that has been the home and shelter for me and my only daughter Raudalice.

The sea has protected  us from the cruel grip of the fishermen of Nabukelevu.

It is because of the sea that we are still living for centuries not as humans but as the great sea-creatures-the giant turtles .

My husband no longer lives but his kingdom of Namuana still remembers him.

The people of Namuana worship us as Goddesses. Raudalice and I love them as our own children. We protect them from all perils and appear before them whenever they call us.

The only time we do not turn up is when we sight any man of Nabukelevu. It is because of them that we were turned into giant turtles.

But we thank the Fijiian Sea for being our Master and our Saviour.
