The etymological origin of the word Haryana dates back to 12 th century AD in the pieces of writings of Vipudh  Shridhar also known as the Apabhramsha writer.  It had been nomenclatured by joining the two words Hari ( lord Vishnu)  and Ayana(home) . Both of these words are derived from the Sanskrit language and Haryana means "the abode of God".
