Answer:

The earth is occupied mostly with water yet freshwater resources are only 2.5%.

Explanation:

Water is an important component of our existence on the earth. It is only the component that exists in all three states in the atmosphere i.e solid, liquid, and gas. The earth's surface is mostly covered with water than land.

About 71% of the earth's surface is covered by salty water in oceans while less than 3% of the water on earth is freshwater resources which are lakes, rivers, and streams.

The water cycle is the main process that keeps on regulating the amount of water on earth. The process starts with the evaporation of water from the oceans by the heat energy of the sun. The evaporated water under the influence of temperature and pressure condenses and again falls back on the earth's surface in the form of rain, snow, and hail.

Thus, these precipitates again mix in the lakes and rivers regulating the amount of fresh water on the ground.
