Earth can maintain it's temperature just because of atmosphere that today we call it global warming.
Global is good but it is exceeding it's limit,so it is harmful.
You can see moon in day it's temperature goes above 100 and at night below -100.
Earth will not suffer from such situations because of atmosphere.
Venus is hotter than mercury just because of presence of atmosphere.
