The eastern slope is on the rain shadow region not the western ghats.While the western slope is on the windward side of western ghats.So when the Arabian sea branch of southwest monsoon strikes the western slope ,it sheds all its moisture there and causes heavy rainfall.While it resend on the eastern slope ,it does not have any moisture and causes no rainfall.
