The conductivity of the solution is 4150 scm²mol-1.

Given:

The electrical resistance of 0.08m caustic soda solution is 5000 when placed in a column with a diameter of 2cm and length of 50 cm.

To Find:

The conductivity of the solution

Solution:

To find the conductivity of the solution we will follow the following steps:

r = p \frac{l}{a}

l is length = 0.5 metre

a is area = πr1² = 3.14 × (0.01)²

r1 is radius = 0.01m

r is the resistance while p is resistivity.

5000 = p \frac{0.5}{3.14 \times 1 \ time {10}^{ - 4} }

Conductivity =  \frac{k \times 1000}{c}

k \:  =  \frac{1}{p}

So,

 k = \frac{1}{p}  =  \frac{0.5}{3.14 \times 1 \times  {10}^{ - 4} \times 5000 }  =  \frac{0.5}{0.3×5}  = 0.332s {cm}^{ - 1}

Now, putting the value of k in the above equation we get,

Conductivity =  \frac{332 \times 1000}{0.08}  = 4150 \: s {cm}^{2}  {mol}^{ - 1}

Henceforth, the conductivity of the solution is 4150 scm²mol-1.
