The electronic configuration of Gadolinium element(atomic number 64) is

[Xe]4f⁷ 5d¹ 6s²

1) since in the above electronic configuration the f block is half filled which make it more stable as we know half and full filled subshell are more stable then those which are not.

2) also the energy difference between 4f and 5d is almost negligence so the electron jumps from 4f to 5d.

3) so option (d) is the right answer
