electronic configuration of x=2, 8, 6

To find period we should calculate the number of shells.

Period= 3 (since it contains 3 shells)

To find group we should see the valence electrons in the outermost shell.

If it is 1, 2, or 3 then the group will be the number of valence electrons itself (no change).

If it is 4,5, 6, 7, or 8 then just add 10 to the valence electron.

Group=16 ( 10+6=2)

Hope it helps u

Answer:

1 . Since ‘X’ has three energy shells and period number of an element is equal to the number  of energy shells, X belongs to 3rd period.

2 . X has 6 valence electrons it belongs to group 16.

3.  Valency will be 2. To acquire noble gas configuration it will gain 2 electrons.
