The electrical conductivity of metals is less than that of molten electrolytes is a false statement.

  • The electrical conductivity of molten electrolytes is less because the number density of free ions in an electrolyte is significantly smaller than the number of free electrons in metals.
  • Secondly, Ions also move slowly due to their larger mass.
  • Every atom in metal is a potential charge carrier. Ions can never outnumber molecules in a solvent therefore the charge carrier density is always less than that of that in metals.
