Explanation:

Given The emf of a battery is 10 V. A voltmeter connected across its plates reads 9.8 V.The battery delivers a current of 0.4 A when connected to a resistance of 24 ohm.Find the resistance of voltmeter.

  • We know that
  • Total resistance = R + Ri
  •    0.4 = 10 / Rt
  •     Rt = 10 / 0.4
  •         = 25 ohm
  •  Ri = Rt – R
  •       = 25 – 24
  •       = 1 ohm
  • 10 / Ri + Rv = 9.8 / Rv
  • 10 Rv = 9.8 Rv + 9.8
  •  9.8 = 0.2 Rv
  •  Rv = 9.8 / 0.2
  •  Rv = 49 ohm
