Heat energy.
We know friction produces heat it is this heat energy which is required to overcome friction.

The Energy required to Overcome the Friction is mainly converted into HEAT ENERGY because,
Friction itself is a force and not energy. That energy must go somewhere .It goes into heating up the molecules that interact with each other (i.e. if an object is falling through air, the air molecules and the molecules of the object on the surface). That energy will be quickly spread to other molecules resulting in a very small increase in the heat energy.
