Given:

Time = t s

Distance = x m

y = A cos 240 ( t - x /12 )

Distance = 0.5 m

To prove:

The phase difference.

Solution:

y = A cos 240 ( 240t - 240x/12 )

To find the wavelength,

k = 240/12

k = 20

k is Wave number.

λ = 2π/20

λ is the wavelength.

0.5/λ = Φ/2π

0.5/(2π/20) = Φ/2π

Φ = 10 degree.

The phase difference between two positions 0.5 m apart is 10 degree.
