Leeward side is the drier side where trade winds pass only after hitting the mountains causing rain in the windward side. As all the moisture is lost by the winds in the windward side, when they pass through the leeward side, they only act as dust winds... So there is dryness or RAIN SHADOW ( dry region on the leeward side of the mountains.
