Let the present age of father be x

and present age of son be y

Four years hence, the age of the father will be four times his son's age ,

$\bf\:(x+4)=4(y+4)$

$\bf\implies\:(x+4)=4y+16$

$\bf\implies\:x-4y=16-4$

$\bf\implies\:x-4y=12................(i)$

When father's age is six times his son's age then,

$\bf\:x=6y...........................(ii)$

Now,

putting x= 6y in equation (i) we get,

$\bf\:6y-4y=12$

$\bf\implies\:2y=12$

$\bf\implies\:y=\dfrac{12}{2}$

$\bf\implies\:y=6$

hence, y= 6 and,

x = 6y

x = 6 × 6

x= 36

so, present age of father is 36 years

and present age of son is 6 years.
