  • Present age of father = Six times the present age of his son.
  • After 4 years, the age of father will be four times the age of son.

To find :

Present age of father and son

Solution :

Age of father = (6x + 4) years

According to question,

 =  > 6x + 4 = 4x + 16

 =  > 6x - 4x = 16 - 4

 =  > 2x = 12

 =  > x =  \dfrac{12}{2}

 =  > x = 6

Hence, the value of x is 6.

Question:

The fathers present age is six times his sons age. Four years hence the age of the father will be four times his sons age. Find the present age of the father and the son.

Solution:

• Let present age of son be M.

» The fathers present age is six times his sons age.

• Present age of father = 6M

4 years hence..

• Age of son = (M + 4) years

• Age of father = (6M + 4) years

» Four years hence the age of the father will be four times his sons age.

A.T.Q.

=> 6M + 4 = 4(M + 4)

=> 6M + 4 = 4M + 16

=> 6M - 4M = 16 - 4

=> 2M = 12

=> M = 12/2

=> M = 6

\textbf{Present age of son} = M

\textbf{= 6 years}

\textbf{Present age of father} = 6M = 6(6)

\textbf{= 36 years}

✡ From above calculations we get M = 6

Put value of M in this equation : 6M + 4 = 4(M + 4)

=> 6(6) + 4 = 4(6 + 4)

=> 36 + 4 = 4(10)

=> 40 = 40
