where, x1= position of the particle at time t1

x2=position of the particle at time t2

here, t1=0s

t2=10s

x1= 60

x2=40

therefore,

avg.velocity =  \frac{40 - 60}{10 - 0}  \\  =  \frac{ - 20}{10}  \\  =  - 2

magnitude= |-2|=2m/s
