Answer:

a = 9 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that

perimeter of shaded area = 1 m = 100 cm

But according to given diagram

The perimeter of shaded area = ( 3a + 2a + 2 + 2a + 3 + 2 + 3a + 3 ) cm

                                                  = (10a + 10) cm

By using given perimeter = 1 cm we get

The perimeter of shaded area = ( 10a + 10 ) cm = 100 cm

                                            10a = 90 cm

                                                a = 90 / 10 = 9 cm

Thus

                                                 a = 9 cm
