SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

(i) Calculate the total distance travelled by him

(ii) The resultant displacement.

EVALUATION

(i) The person travelled from house to market

The total distance travelled by him

= ( 16.5 + 22.5 + 30 + 40.7 ) m

= 109.7 m

(ii) We know that Displacement is the distance between an object's initial position and its final position

Thus Displacement is the difference between the two positions of the object which is independent of the path taken

We see that the person travelled from house to market

Now the shortest distance between house and market = 15 m

Hence the required displacement

= 15 m
