The legacy of the late Apple cofounder Steve Jobs just got a little richer on Monday. The garage where he started Apple with Steve Wozniak has been named as a historic site.
Located in Silicon Valley, the modest house at 2066 Crist Dr. in Los Altos, Calif., was the place where Jobs and Wozniak, along with others, churned out the very first Apple computers (see below). Built in 1952, the 61-year-old house is not only the birthplace of Apple, but also the childhood home of Jobs.
According to a report in the San Jose Mercury News, Jobs’ sister Patricia had no say in the new designation for the property. That was left to the Los Altos Historical Commission, a group of citizens appointed by the Los Altos City Council.
In an interview with Mashable, Zach Dahl, the staff liaison for the Los Altos Historical Commission, said that the house is currently occupied by Steve Jobs’ stepmother, Marilyn Jobs. Further, the owner of the home is listed as the Jobs Trust.
Dahl, who has been in frequent contact with Jobs' sister Patricia (who is the spokesperson for the Jobs Trust), told Mashable that she did not object to the historical designation.
