The Indian general election of 1951–52, held from 25 October 1951 to 21 February 1952, was the first election to the Lok Sabha since India became independent in August 1947. It was conducted under the provisions of the Indian Constitution, which was adopted on 26 November 1949.

the first general elections in India were held in 1952. there was a lot of difficulty in conducting the elections
REASON:
- many of the people were illiterate
- nobody knows how to read and write
- they have no idea about the elections
- women don't have their own identity instead they are identified by their father's name or her husband
to conduct the elections election commission was formed. To avoid these problems election commission came with an idea
SOLUTION:
- each candidate has his own symbol and these symbols are taken from our daily things we see
- ballot boxes are kept
- the symbols are sticked to the ballot box so that the voters can identify
- the voter can choose their symbol of any candidate he likes
- to make it more easier the voter should only put their ballot paper into the box
- each candidate has each ballot box
in this way the first general elections were held and election commission has took the hole responsibility in conducting the elections in a easier way
