The first person ever to orbit around Earth was (b) Yuri Gagarin.
He was the first person to ever go to outer space when his Vostok spacecraft orbited around the Earth on 12th April, 1961.
He was a Soviet and and a cosmonaut.
Aprt for various prestigious medals and honours, he was awarded the medal of the 'Hero of theSoviet Union' which is the nation's highest honour.
Soon after, in 1968, Gagarin died in a crash but is still remebered for completing a revolutionary mission.
