Answer:
The flat part of the leaf is called lamina or leaf blade.
The diagram for the cross-section of leaf is given in the attachment.
- The upper part of the leaf ( which seems to be shiny ) is is covered by a waxy cuticle.
- Just below the waxy cuticle, there is a layer of upper epidermis cells.
- This layer of cells are for the protection of the leaf.
- The cells below this layer of epidermal cells contains chloroplast which contains pigment chlorophyll for the help in the process of photosynthesis.
- The next layer of cells also contain chloroplast but here huge air spaces are there which helps in the easier gaseous circulation in the leaf.
- The lower epidermis layer of cells are also for protection.
- In the lower epidermis layer of cells we have guard cells(a structure of stomata) which help in the process of transpiration and taking in carbon dioxide for the process of photosynthesis (basically exchange of gases).
- These tiny pores are called stomata.
- The vascular bundle of the vein of the leaf contains two types of vessels called xylem vessels and phloem vessels.
- The xylem vessels helps in the transportation of water and minerals whereas the phloem vessels helps in the transportation of food or glucose made in the leaves.
