Complete and Correct question:

Direction: The following flow chart which gives the techniques a student adopted to separate the constituents of a mixture.

What could the mixture be?

a)Water + sand + glass

b)Oxygen + hydrogen + salt

c)Stones + rice + water

d)Chalk powder + sugar + water

Answer:

The correct option is d) chalk powder+ sugar+ water.

Explanation:

The chalk powder will get separated from sugar and water through filtration. Then by distillation sugar gets separated from water.

Explanation for wrong options:

a)Water + sand + glass

Through filtration both sand and glass will be separated out as the particles of both sand and glass are big. Then distillation is not required.

b)Oxygen + hydrogen + salt

In this nothing can be separated out through filtration as both Salt and hydrogen are dissolved in water.

c)Stones + rice + water

Since the particles of both rice and stones are big enough it will get separated through filtration and there's no need of distillation.

Hence d)Chalk powder + sugar + water is the correct answer.
