Area = x² - 6x+8

Using quadratic formula,

 \sf \frac{ - b  \: \pm \:  \sqrt{ {b}^{2}  - \:  4ac} }{2a}

Here,

  • b = 6
  • a = 1
  • c = 8

Substituting values in formula,

 \rightarrow \: \sf \frac{ 6 \: \pm \:  \sqrt{ {6}^{2}  - \:  4(1)(8)} }{2(1)} \\   \rightarrow \: \sf \: \sf \frac{ 6  \: \pm \:  \sqrt{ 36  - \:  32} }{2} \\  \rightarrow \:  \sf \: \sf \frac{ 6  \: \pm \:  \sqrt{ 4} }{2} \\  \rightarrow \:  \sf \: \sf \frac{ 6 \: \pm \:  2 }{2}  \\  \rightarrow \:  \sf \:  \frac{6 + 2}{2}  \:  \: or \:  \:  \frac{ 6 - 2}{2}  \\  \rightarrow \sf \: 4 \:  \: or \:  \: 2 \\  \therefore \:  \sf \: x = 4 \: or \: x  = 2

Area of rectangle = L x B

~Case 1

Length = 2cm and Breadth = 4cm

~Case 2

Length = 4cm and breadth = 2cm
