The following observations were taken, while determining relative density of a liquid : Weight of solid in air = 0.1 kgf Weight of solid in liquid = 0.08 kgf Weight of solid in water = 0.075 kgf
Calculate :
(1) The apparent loss of weight of the solid in liquid
(2) The apparent loss of weight of the solid in water
(3) Relative density of the liquid.

Answer:

(1) The apparent loss of weight of the solid in liquid = Weight of solid in air – weight of solid in liquid.

= (0.1 – 0.08) kgf

= 0.02 kgf.

(2) The apparent loss of weight of the solid in liquid = Weight of solid in air – weight of solid in water.

= (0.1 – 0.075) kgf

= 0.025 kgf.

(3) Relative density (R.D) of liquid = Apparent loss of weight of the solid in liquid ÷ Apparent loss of weight of the solid in liquid.

= 0.02/0.025 = 0.8
