Given:

The following table gives the distribution of 100 accidents during seven days of the week of a given month.

During the particular month there are 5 Mondays,Tuesday,and Wednesday and only 4 of each of the other day.

Day:-Sun Mon Tue Wed Thurs Fri Sat

No of Accidents :- 26 16 12 10 8 10 18

To find:

Calculate the number of accidents per day?

Solution:

For calculating the number of accidents per day arithmetic mean will be calculated as follows:

m = No. of accidents

f = No. of times day occuring in a month

Day                      m                    f                      f × m

Sunday               25                   4                  25 × 4 = 100

Monday              16                    5                  16 × 5 = 80

Tueday               12                    5                  12 × 5 = 60

Wednesday        10                   5                  10 × 5 = 50

Thusrday             8                   4                   8 × 4 = 32

Friday                  10                   4                  10 × 4 = 40

Saturday             18                   4                  18 × 4 = 72

                                             N = 31                ∑fm = 434

a = ∑fm/N

= 434/31

= 14

Thus the number of accidents per day is 14.
