If we want to know whether a plant has performed photosynthesis or not we do the "starch test".

It's not like the starch produced once stays with that plant forever even if doesn't perform photosynthesis but plants can store starch for two three days if some factor prevents then from performing photosynthesis.

So an iodine solution is used in this test which turns blue black in the presence of starxh and retain its original color (reddish brown) in the absence of it.

Proteins and lipids provide energy to the cells but it's most likely associated with animals for we do not make food but consume it to attain energy.
