DPD is the reduction in diffusion pressure due to the addition of solute molecules to the solvent which causes decrease in free energy of the solvent particles.

water moves from the region of low DPD to a region of high DPD. That means from the region where the reduced pressure is low to a region where reduced pressure is high.

It is also known as suction pressure.
